Awards and Grants

Each year, various awards are being presented at the annual ICONIP Conference. Based on the Award Selection Committee, the APNNA Governing Board presents two awards–The APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award and The APNNA Excellent Service Award. Other awards are conference awards–The Best Paper Award and The Best Student Paper Award.

APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award

  • For outstanding contribution in neuro-computing and related areas.
  • The maximum number of person to be awarded each year is 1 person.

Prof. Derong Liu of The Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA), China is the recipient of The 2014 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award.

Prof. Chin-Teng (CT) Lin of National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan is the recipient of The 2013 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award.

Prof. Nik Kasabov of Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand is the recipient of The 2012 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award.

Prof. Jun Wang of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong is the recipient of The 2011 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award.

Prof. Shiro Usui of the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Japan is the recipient of The 2010 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award for his pioneering and fundamental contributions to Neuroinformatics.

Prof. Soo-Young Lee of the Brain Science Research Center, in Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is the recipient of The 2009 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award for his contributions in Information Technology Based On Neural Engineering.

Prof. Aike Guo of the State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Science, People's Republic of China is the recipient of The 2008 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award for his contributions in Brain Science.

APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award 2007

Dr. Mitsuo Kawato of the ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories is the recipient of The 2007 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award for his investigation of the brain information processing with the long-term goal of making machines.

Prof. Lei Xu of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong is the recipient of The 2006 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award for his outstanding work on Statistical Learning Theory.

Prof. Kunihiko Fukushima of The University of Electro-Communications, Japan is the recipient of The 2005 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award.

APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award 2004

Prof. Shun-ichi Amari of the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Japan is the recipient of The 2004 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award.

APNNA Excellent Service Award

  • For excellent service to APNNA.
  • The maximum number of persons to be awarded each year is 2 persons.
  • Candidates should be APNNA members who are actively promoting and serving APNNA.

APNNA Young Researcher Award

  • For encouragement of young researchers who have demonstrated excellent research in neuro-computing and related areas.
  • The maximum number of persons to be awarded each year is 2 persons.
  • Each candidate should be working or studying in Asia Pacific countries and regions. The age limit should be 40 or below.
